Webinar series delivers practical tips for profit

02 Jul 2025

Experts from around the country have offered their insights to build productivity and profitability in your operation, delivered in a suite of webinars and podcast episodes available to watch or listen to.

The latest Productivity & Profitability series has completed and joins a library of more than 60 webinars available to support on-farm decision making in southern production systems.

Whether it’s building your breeding flock, focusing on fertility, or nailing nutrition, it’s not too late to catch an episode or two in the ute, on the tractor, or by the computer.

Here is a sneak peek of what you may have missed:

Dr Gordon Refshauge – Fertility and fecundity in the Australian sheep flock between 2006 and 2019

As a Senior Research Scientist with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Gordon has dedicated much of his career to researching sheep and goat reproduction.

This episode explores the average pregnancy rate in Australian sheep flocks and Gordon shares practical tips to improve fertility and manage the growing flock.

Listeners will learn to identify key factors affecting fertility, nutritional strategies to improve pre-mating conditions and how to utilise pregnancy scanning data to enhance planning and flock productivity.

Dr Tim Gole – Setting your breeding flock up for success

For Flocks Sake founder Tim Gole lives and breathes sheep and helps producers to take their operation to the next level using health, genetics, and data.

Tim’s work as a sheep veterinarian leaves him well-versed to guide producers through the importance of pre-joining exams, body condition scoring, scanning, ASBVs, and how electronic ID (eID) can be used to advantage a business.

Establishing the ideal joining length refining or setting breeding objectives before ram sale season are also discussed within this episode. These also give insights to what producers can expect when attending a BredWell FedWell workshop.

Ed Riggall – Integrating livestock into mixed farming systems: Summer nutrition

It’s a difficult task striking the balance to optimise livestock production with cropping, but Director and Principal Consultant at AgPro Management Ed Riggall tackles the topic in this episode.

Utilising stubble and confinement feeding are part of the strategies Ed walks producers through to help manage livestock and the feeding gap through the non-growing season.

Ed also explores the role of alternative pasture and feed sources as well as the risk and impact of a late break.
